Italy- Casa Spa

This multifamily dwelling built in 1984 features 12 apartments spread out over four floors. The walls are composed of a reinforced concrete pile and beam construction with precast insulated concrete panels, which are plastered on both sides. Since all homes are individually heated according to different time schedules, the total energy consumption is estimated at 145~175 kWh/m²∙per year. All windows are single glazed.

Energy Matching Tool
The EnergyMatching Tool contributed to the design of the BIPV system for this building in Campi Bisenzio. This tool made it possible to indicate the position and capacity of the solar modules and electrical storage. The tool proposed the optimal solution according to the specifics of the building (geometry and energy demand), the technologies (cost and technical characteristics), and the context (radiation conditions and electricity costs). These indicators provide valuable insight into the expected performance of the PV system.

Solar Window Block
The Solar Window Block is a prefabricated, autonomous, and multifunctional window block. It is equipped with an insulating frame with integrated, motorized, and automated blinds. It is equipped with a decentralized ventilation unit with heat recovery. The solar module and battery are integrated to power the ventilation system. The Solar Window Block uses a configuration with a vertical solar module under the window. Onyx manufactured the glass/glass PV modules and TULiPPS made the construction and edge finish for the solar modules together with Plastica. Pellini supplied the blinds along with their actuators and remote control. Eurofinestra manufactured the window and insulating frame and supplied all other necessary components and integrated them into the Solar Window Block system.

BIPV Click&Go System
The BIPV Click&Go system is a combined EnergyMatching solution using TULiPPS Click&Go substructure incorporating BIPV glass/glass and/or composite modules from Onyx and Tecnalia. Two different BIPV modules are used on the building:  the Onyx lightweight glass/glass BIPV module and the Tecnalia composite roof BIPV module.

Versatile Click&Go substructure
This system is designed for quick and easy mounting and is used for all four PV applications on the building:

  • Composite modules on the roof are installed overlapping (overlapping pitched roof system).
  • Glass/glass modules on the roof are mounted flat (flat-mounted pitched roof system).
  • Parapet modules are mounted flush as a facade mounting system (facade mounting system).
  • The PV module on the Solar Window Block is mounted with the same Click&Go system used for the facade.
