BIPV Projects Completes Innovative Solar Facades at De Haan Group in Waalwijk

De Haan Group Waalwijk has one of the largest solar facades in the Netherlands

BIPV Projects, a company based in Waalwijk (The Netherlands) has delivered two large solar facades at De Haan Group in Waalwijk, covering a total area of 1,155 m². The solar energy facades at De Haan Group have been put into production and are SCIOS Scope 12 (safety) compliant.

"The new Click&Go mounting system enables an aesthetic and invisible mounting of solar panels on facades and can easily be combined with traditional facade elements, as applied at De Haan Group. We are particularly proud of these new solar facades at De Haan Group because they are mounted on existing sandwich panels, which are not designed to carry the weight of solar panels. And of course, the structural properties of the facades must be preserved," says Eugene Widlak, Technical Director (CTO) at BIPV Projects. "Therefore, we have developed an innovative technology for application of solar systems on existing sandwich panel facades with limited load-bearing capacity. Thanks to this innovative Click&Go mounting system, safe mounting and efficient installation is now perfectly possible."

The project at De Haan Group is an excellent example of integrating aesthetically appealing solar energy systems into industrial and commercial buildings.

Solar facades are particularly effective in generating energy, especially during the morning and evening hours when the demand for power is highest, and the same is applicable to electricity prices in those hours. Additionally, solar facades perform particularly well under low sun angles, so in autumn, winter, and spring when energy prices are generally highest. By using the east and west facades, not only does increase the total generation capacity, but the energy generation is better spread throughout the day. This enables a larger portion of the energy consumption to be self-generated. Solar facades are also a solution when roofs are not suitable or too small, or when the capacity of the grid connection is insufficient and cannot be expanded. This is increasingly common in The Netherlands due to grid congestion issues and the growing electrification of society with more installed heat pumps and charging stations. The solar facades at De Haan Group show that facade surfaces, including east and west facades, are perfectly suited for more sustainable energy production. Driven by new legislation and upcoming European CO2 taxes, solar energy production through facades will see significant growth in the coming years.

To facilitate this growth in demand for solar facades, BIPV Projects has developed the digital platform BIPV.world. The platform enables architects to design complete solar facades and custom solutions more quickly and gain real-time insight into costs and returns. The solar facades of De Haan Group were designed by Sweco Architects with the assistance of the BIPV.world digital platform.
